Destination: Hong Kong & Macao
Duration: 9 Days 8 Night (Nov 24~Dec
02, 2018)
This year our traveling consisting
of only direct flight, is this a sign of getting old when one avoids going
through flight transit? *facepalm* Unfortunately our options are getting thin
as there are only few direct oversea flights departing from Penang. We booked
Cathay Dragon to Hong Kong after we realized AirAsia tickets price was not as attractive
especially when meal, luggage & seat selection are considered. We never had
luck in AirAsia promo ticket during school holiday except last year’s Osaka
ticket.
Day 1: A Failed Mission to the Peak
Our flight KA692 was supposed to
depart at 7.55am but was delayed eventhough the boarding was completed. The
pilot reported that we were waiting for some passenger before we would take
off. Seriously! I’ve never heard of a plane waiting for passenger unless their
luggage had been checked in to offload the luggage.

When your hb dumps you for small 3.... Thankfully i still have Sammy! |
Our flight finally took off at
around 8.30am and we were offered a choice of Spanish Frittata or Seafood Fried
Noodle. Strangely for a Hong Kong Airline, the western choice actually tasted
much better than the oriental choice. The Spanish Frittata was packed full of
flavor whilst the noodle was plain. Also, this was when I learnt that a child’s
flight ticket did not automatically entitled them for child meal unless one
specified it in the booking. Oops.. so lil one ended up eating more breads than
the adult main course.

The flight touched down at HKIA at
around 12noon and we were lucky to have a short line at the immigration counter
thanks to our front seating (row 24) in the plane. We did not check in any
luggage (light travelers here! *proud*) thus we walked out from the arrival
hall in no time. Our 1st mission was to get the octopus card, we
went to the 7-11 but were told theirs were sold out and they told us to get to
another counter to get it. The Counter was actually not labelled on Octopus
card thus it was quite confusing – in fact it was the biggest MTR counter at
arrival hall which said “Train tickets to the City”. *facepalm* We kept asking
around until we finally queued at this counter for the octopus card. We also
bought an 8 days 5GB sim card which was applicable for both Hong Kong &
Macao at 7-11 counter.

We are coming!!! |
|
Yes! The Counter is there for the Octopus Card - "Train tickets to City" |
We would be staying at Alohas Hostel
near Jordan Station for 3 nights and they had sent us detailed information on
how to get there. Thus we followed their instruction on taking Bus A21 and
arrived at Station#11 Prudential Centre. The hostel was just opposite of the
bus stop and we managed to find it without any issue as their instruction was
super detailed! *thumbs up*

Enjoying a ride at the bustling streets of HK... |
The room was small as expected but
the hostel provided all sort of hotel amenities such as tooth brush,
toothpaste, slippers, combs, umbrellas and much more. They were all put on
display beside the reception counter and the guest could take them as needed.
We took a short break in the hotel as we were tired due to an early morning
start.

Yes, this is it! The Room! LOL!!! |

The Toilet & Bathroom |
Once we managed to climb out of bed,
it was time to satisfy our stomach! There were lots of recommended restaurants
around the hostel and we managed to find one in no time! Our 1st
food experience was the Mak Man Kee Noodle Shop (麥文記麵家) – we
ordered their signature wonton soup noodle, BBQ pork noodle and a plate of
vegetables with their signature oyster sauce. Their wonton was indeed packed
full of shrimp. However, my favourite was actually the vegetables with
signature oyster sauce! It was just so savoury! For some reason I didn’t really
like the noodle as it seemed to have some chemical taste but the wonton was
indeed big and stuffed full of shrimps. We were also treated for the 1st
time by the ‘famous’ HK style hospitality where the waiters kept rushing you.

The vege with oyster sauce is the best.... |
After our rushed late lunch, we saw that Australia dairy company (澳洲牛奶公司) was just
few steps away so we went ahead to queue for desserts. The queue was quite fast
and we managed to get our ‘white egg steamed fresh milk” (蛋白燉鮮奶)& “Almond steamed Egg” (杏汁燉雞蛋)in
no time. We also ordered the famous scrambled egg toast and it was really
fluffy & yummy. The custards were also very creamy and silky but scrambled
egg toast triumphed both!
|
Menu anyone? |
|
Too much desserts! |
|
Still prefer this Scrambled Egg Toast! |
We continued our journey with MRT (the station is like 1 mins walk from hostel) to
Peak Tram but the queue was horrendous! We did not pre-purchase our ticket
since we were not sure on our timing. We ended up giving up and walked to Hong
Kong Park nearby. There was a big children playground so lil one went crazy for
it.

OMG!!! Look at the queue!!! This is just the queue to get on the cable car! There is another queue to get tickets!!! |

A Big Park but some sections were closed for renovation |
I was a bit under the weather so we took the MRT to get back to Jordan
station again. Hb took lil one out to Temple street since it was just around
the corner and bought egglets and more desserts for supper. So I guess our 1st
day in HK basically consisted of Foods, Foodss & Foodsss!!! *facepalm*
