Travel Log: Fear & Loathing in Langkawi (Day 1)

Destination: Langkawi, Malaysia
Duration: 3 Days 2 Nights (Oct 28~Oct 30, 2016)

Day 1: Stocking up & Lazing around

After our too-short drunken trip last year in Langkawi (link), we’d decided to make a longer trip to fully enjoy booze & chocolates this time by having a 3D2N trip instead. The trip was totally itinerary-free and basically we just made up whatever we wanted to do on the spot. Fear & loathing indeed... with some consequences involving a certain pair of footwear... LOL!!!

On a cloudy morning, we had to wake up at 6.30am (such blasphemy! This is earlier than my working day!) to catch our ferry of 8.30am. Apparently one could buy ferry ticket online directly to print out ourselves without going to the ferry office to collect the ticket like last year. This definitely made life easier! Here is the link for online ticket from Penang to Langkawi: Penang Langkawi Online Ticketing

We arrived at Swettenham port at 7.30am and were told the entrance to ferry had been changed. Instead of going in directly into the main gate, one had to go through a small gate opposite Fort Cornwallis. Basically after entering the small gate, we had to walk a big round which led us inside the main gate again! What the heck? *Rolleyes*

It was finally time to board the ferry and this time the ferry was newer & bigger than the one we had last year. The seat was also allocated unlike the free seating last time. This time I did not suffer from any seasickness but not sure whether it’s due to the more steady ferry or the seasickness pill that I ate. The ferry made a brief stop at Pulau Payar before reaching Langkawi at around 11.20am.
Finally it's time for Boarding!
Our Ferry
Superstar Libra & Costa Victoria was there too!!!!
Goodbye Penang
Finally in Langkawi
It was raining when we took the taxi from Kuah Jetty to Aseania Resort (RM30). We arrived at the hotel about 30minutes later and were pleased that our room was ready. We booked it though Booking.com and got the Deluxe room with 2 Queen beds. Frankly speaking, the room in Aseania Resort was quite old and serious renovation was needed especially the bathroom. Our room also had an unpleasant murky smell when we stepped in. Anyway, we booked the resort due to its pool as we loved the wave pool during last stay last time.

Amenities - did i mention the shampoo & shower gel smell like dishwasher?

A Fridge to stash our Alcohol!!!
Once we settled down, we walked towards Pantai Cenang to grab lunch since the rain had stopped. We were thinking about trying the famous local Tomato Nasi Kandar which was supposed to be opposite Cenang Mall but couldn’t find it. Strangely Google Map pointed us to a totally different direction in Pantai Tengah for that but its street view still showed it to be opposite Cenang Mall. Since we were starving, we walked back to Red Tomato (link) – another highly recommended restaurant in Langkawi to have western food instead – not before we did some research in Cenang Mall on alcohol price. =P
RED Tomato
We ordered mushroom soup, prawn Aglio olio & egg benedict as lunch in the nearly full restaurant. The mushroom soup was served with brown bread and it was thick and creamy. The brown bread tasted a bit like sourdough and matched the soup nicely. The Prawn Aglio Olio on the other hand was quite common. The star of the bunch was the egg benedict! Nested on top of brown bread were smoked salmon, perfectly pouched egg & spinach covered by heavenly Hollandaise sauce. Gosh! How I wish to eat another one!!!

Egg Benedict - This is a Must Try!!! Best Egg Benedict i've had!!!
Look at that!!!
Photo?? No! I can't wait to dig in!!!
After lunch, we walked opposite to The Zon & Coco Valley to stock up our booze and chocolates. One thing we realized was the price of the 2 shops & the shop in Cenang mall was not standardized. For example, a bottle of Mudshake in Coco Valley cost RM7.50 whereas it cost RM7 in the Zon. The most surprising revelation was Moet Nectar Imperial in Cenang Mall only cost RM139 if compared to RM155 in Coco Valley.
Chocolate Vodka Mudshake - too Sweet for me...
The Chupa Chups Train!
Once we saw that, we walked out from Coco Valley to run towards Cenang Mall to buy 2 bottles of Moet Nectar Imperial and some Hoegaarden Rose which cost RM3.90! Hoegaarden Blanc was only RM4.00 as well. We also bought some chocolates from the chocolate shop beside the alcohol shop in the mall for snack. =P
Our 1st day Purchase - kukukai not included!!! LOL!!!
After carrying all our stash back to Aseania, we went to laze around the pool for few hours whilst enjoying our cheap booze and chocolates. Too bad the wave pool was not functioning during our stay so we ended up swimming in the non-wave wave pool. LOL!!! This was also when I realised that the only footwear that I brought was a 3inches wedges so basically I had to wear it everywhere (eg. to the pool) regardless of activity!
Beer & Pool! What a killer combination!
Wave Pool without Wave!
We enjoyed the Moet after our swim with some snacks before walking out to grab dinner.
Chocolate coated Potato Chips!
The Chips!
Strawberry Biscuit
Our Moet Nectar Imperial!!! Drinking it using a Coffee Cup! *facepalm*
This time we walked to another direction to have pizza from The Pizza Maker (link) which was highly recommended in Tripadvisor as the chef was from Napoli in Italy. We ordered some iced tea, bruschetta & a 4 Formaggi Pizza (4 cheese pizza).
Pizza Maker just a 5 mins walk away
Outdoor seat
The Bruschetta looked like a pizza itself and the chewy dough complemented the topping of cherry tomato, garlic and olive oil perfectly. The 4 Formaggi Pizza tasted totally different from the freshness of the Bruschetta with strong flavoured cheese and very thin crust – definitely a must try for cheese lover. At the end we loved the Bruschetta more than the Pizza because it was light & not as heavy as the cheese. =P
Iced Tea
Blue & Pink! How cute! LOL!!!
Bruschetta!!! This is so Yummy!
4 Formaggi Pizza - a must-try for cheese lover! Look at all the cheese!!!
After dinner, hubby stayed with lil one in resort for her bed time whereas I walked to Cenang area again thinking to hunt for more alcohol & chocolates. To my disappointment, the Zon & Coco Valley were closed by the time I arrived at around 9.45pm. After some Google, apparently the Zon was closed at 8pm whereas Coco Valley at 9pm!!! OMG!!! Why so early!!! They should opened 24 hours or at least until 12midnight and I bet there would be lots of customers during night time. Well, at least I walked to burn off some calories from all the cheese during dinner. =P
Aseania at Night
Closed?! Seriously!!!
Next Day (Island Hopping in the Rain)
