Travel Log: Fear & Loathing in Langkawi (Day 2)

Previous Day: Stocking up the Booze

Destination: Langkawi, Malaysia
Duration: 3 Days 2 Nights (Oct 28~Oct 30, 2016)

Day 2: Island Hopping in the Rain

We woke up quite late in the morning, it was already 10am by the time we went down for our breakfast in Aseania Resort and the breakfast closed at 10.30am. *facepalm* The breakfast spread in Aseania was really spread out – in fact, one had to go out to poolside and even corridor to get different food. We didn’t realized this as we were sitting indoor and was thinking choices were limited. I bet many guests didn’t know that either as I could see they were getting the same limited choices like us.
Are these the only option? =(
There were no freshly squeezed orange juice there – only artificial water-down orange juice. We had some fried noodle, egg, potato wedges, hotdog & bread before the staffs there started to take everything back to kitchen at 10.35am. In fact, this was how we realized there were other choices when they were trolleying the leftover beside our table to kitchen.
The Only Plate of Fried Noodle we managed to get as it was WIPED OUT by other guests
After our brunch, we walked to Cenang area again to buy more chocolates as we almost finished the one we bought yesterday. We tried some Cosmo & Mojito from Cenang Mall and liked the Cosmo more as it tasted like cranberry. We also bought a bottle of Moet Imperial Rose at RM182 from Coco Valley which was the cheapest among the shops.
Alcohols for Mommy & Smarties for lil one...
After our shopping spree, we were thinking about putting our stash back to hotel before going for cable car. However, we were attracted by this board at a random travel agent of island hopping which only cost RM35 per pax! We quickly inquired about it as found out that they had free hotel pickup and the next trip would be at 2pm. So we ended up enrolling in the tour at 1pm before the rain started pouring down.
Let's go Island Hopping!!!
Since it was raining cats & dogs, we made a stop at nearby McDonalds for some fries before bracing the rain to walk back to Aseania at around 1.40pm. We waited at the lobby after keeping the stash in our room for a van picked us up. Thank goodness the rain was getting lighter by that time. The van dropped us at some jetty and asked us to wait there.
Waiting at McD.. Heavy Rain
Let's have some fries with ketchup!
The arrangement was actually quite messy as there were many people there with different color tour sticker and we had no idea which boat we were supposed to get on. We ended up waiting there for quite a while before someone called for our sticker.
Waiting in the middle of nowhere!
A Small Jetty
Let's Camwhore since we have nothing to do...
A View of the Jetty
The boat ride was really fun as it was quick with wind blowing at your face at high speed. The 1st thing after I boarded the boat was: where is the life jacket?! LOL!!! Well, they did provide life jacket before the boat speeding off from jetty. =)
Still waiting... =(
Finally on the Boat
Let's go!!!
Enjoying the Breeze! Look! there is the Pregnant lady!
We are actually very near to the water...
Our boat stopped at Pulau Dayang Bunting and we were given an hour to explore the area. Malaysian had to pay RM3/pax to enter the area to Lake of Pregnant Maiden. Unbeknownst to me, there was a hike (mostly stairs) to reach the lake and I was wearing a pair of 3inches wedges! OMG!!! Let’s just say 3 inches wedges & hiking should never be paired together!
Arriving at the Isle...
Thankfully there is Jetty
Let's see what is on the island!
A Map
The Entrance to pay $$!! =P
OMG!!!! Stairs!!!! O_O|||
Tummy making friend with Monkey?
After the excruciating path, we finally arrived at the lake where people swimming or paddling boats around the lake. There was also another more isolated path to the ‘Miracle Border’ which separates the lake & sea with just 30m of mass. There was another 15mins walk from the main area to the border where we had to walk through wooden plank. The view at the border was just okay and frankly speaking not worth the effort to walk there. LOL!!!
Arriving at the Lake... which i think is a tourist trap.. LOL!!!
Swim or Paddle?
Let's walk to Miracle Border instead.. Hmm.. what's this tree doing in the middle?
The Pregnant lady from the other side...
Let's keep walking!
That's the Miracle Border at the left.. still some way to go!
Getting there!!! Look at the floating bridge...
Now we have to cross it!!
The area is totally rundown!
Here we are! At the Miracle Border (30m) that separates the Lake & Sea
Just an Empty Cottage there.. =(
We had to walk back all the way to the main Lake area and back to the jetty in 30mins and thankfully we made it. Unfortunately our boat mates did not make it on time and we had to wait for another 20mins for them. UGH!!!
Walking back to the main area!
We were here!!!
Waiting for our Boatmates.. =(
Our boat then proceeded to Pulau Singa Besar to watch eagle feeding. It was drizzling lightly by then and the rain splashing straight at our faces during the ride. Our boat stopped at the middle of the sea where we could see eagles scooping down for food.
Eagles!
Fail to take pic of Eagle feeding though..
We then proceeded to our last stop - Pulau Beras Basah. The boat basically stopped right at the edge of the beach where one had to jump off the boat into the shallow sea. I ended up had to take off my 3 inches wedges and jumped in barefoot. So if you ever planned to go for island hopping – wear a pair of darned slipper!!!
Yes, we have to JUMP from the boat to the beach - if you think this is hard, think again when you have to climb up to the boat again
No one is using that jetty! WHY?!
We were given an hour there so we got into shallow sea to let the wave washed over our leg. There were some incidence where a tourist stepped on sea urchin and it seemed so serious that many people ran over to help. Frankly speaking, the beach & sea there were not suitable for barefoot at all as there were many loose corals and seashells. I had to endure it because I didn’t have a pair of darned slipper with me! *facepalm*
Not a good idea to go barefeet!
Enjoying the STICKY sea water.. LOL!!!
Strolling casually at the beach!
Our trip ended with rain bulleting on our face during our boat ride back to Langkawi Island. Btw, it was not easy to climb up to the boat on the beach - it was quite high and there was no jetty or stairs to go up! So we had to climb ungracefully from the beach. Not recommended for elderly. The van dropped us back to Aseania Resort and it was still raining. This did not deter our swimming session though – we went ahead to swim in the rain. Romantic? =P
Moet Imperial Rose!!!
After our swim, we walked towards Cenang area again and bought some Guava Vodka Cocktail which tasted like fruit juice. We wanted to try this food truck “Chucha” which was famed for their grilled sandwich but it was closed. We continued on trying to look for Tomato Nasi Kandar but gave up as it was simply nowhere near Cenang Mall per internet! ** I googled after getting back from Langkawi and noticed that google map actually pointed at the correct location (the opposite direction of Cenang Mall) because they had relocated! In fact, it was just at the other direction of Aseania Resort which we never explored!
Guava Juice? =P
Fruit Juice for Mommy & Mudshake for Lil one? SShhhhhh.....
CLOSED?!!! WWWHHYYYY!!!!!!
During our walk along the stretch, we noticed that there were lots of island hopping tour operator and some only charged RM30 or RM25 per pax! So do your homework if you want to save some $$ on the tour. We ended up at a random restaurant called Telaga Seafood because it was just in front of us! We did not order the seafood by weight though. We ordered prawn tomyam (RM12.80), prawn fried rice (RM9.80) and seafood platter (RM40).
Telaga Seafood
Outdoor Setting
The prawn fried rice was tasteless and the cracker served with it was soggy. The seafood platter was okay - the fish, squid & prawn was nice with the chili provided. Our favourite was the Tomyam as it was thick, sour & spicy and it was so good to eat something like that on a rainy night. After food, we finally called it a day and took the long walk back to resort. Gosh! My thigh was killing me! =(
