Travel Log: A Piggie’s Life in KL (Day 1)

Destination: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Duration: 3 Days 2 Nights (Jul 07~Jul 09, 2016)

Day 1: Onwards to Bukit Bintang!

It was a long holiday for Hari Raya and we had no idea where to go. We ended up with a short KL trip with no particular destination in mind which ended up pigging out non-stop the entire trip. *facepalm* We departed Penang at around 12noon (no one was willing to climb out of bed early since it was PUBLIC HOLIDAY!!!) and stopped at the highway rest stop for some fruits and fatty deep fried stuffs.
Snack anyone?
After 3.5 hours drive and some panic with our “GPS Signal not found” ipad, we finally arrived in Oasia Suites Kuala Lumpur (Link) which is located next to KL Tower. It was a newly opened hotel and we got the Deluxe room with 50% discount. There was some issue with the door handle of our room and had to ask the reception for help. Apparently there was a special method to open the handle which I’d never learned during the stay. LOL!!!

We were pleasantly surprised by our room once we opened the door. There were dining area, kitchen, fridge, washing machine, living room before we even reached our bedroom. Wow! What a good deal! The design and bright and pleasant and we felt immediately at home. The KL tower was right outside of our window but we could only see the lower part of it since it is too high!

The Bright Side of driving to KL - you can bring the whole family!

After settling down and did some last minute googling on food nearby, we took to rooftop to scout the swimming pool area. The pool looked nice with KL tower right in our sight. It was too hot to swim at this hour though so we continued to walk to Bukit Bintang for late lunch/early dinner as we were starving. It was around a 20 minutes walk and we got there without any incidence (eg, Lost our way ;p) thanks so Google Map.

The Gym - opens 24 hours but we never utilize this! LOL!!!
Oasia Suites
Our 1st destination was Lot 10 Hutong (十號胡同), apparently it was highly recommended for overpriced local street food by the famous HK foodie Cai Lan (蔡瀾). Since we had no idea what to eat, we simple referred to the “Top 10 Must-Eat Heritage Food” Poster there. We ended up with Pork Ball Noodle, Hokkien Mee and wanton noodle with barbequed pork (Char siew).

The pork ball noodle was kind of similar to koay teow soup in Penang but with pork ball instead. They did provided some chili sauce which spiced up the slightly sourly soup. The pork ball was really bouncy though.
Pork Ball Noodle
The Hokkien Noodle had the longest queue among all the stalls and owner/helper was really arrogant. It was a mixture of thick noodle with vegetables, prawns and pork with tons of dark soy sauce and OIL… basically it was drenched in oil… it was not as spectacular as its reputation though. It tasted just like the ‘dai lok mee’ we get in Tong Hooi coffee shop at Dato Keramat Road Penang. =P
Hokkien Mee
The wanton noodle’s texture was very different – a bit hard and not as springy as I liked but the star of the meal was definitely the barbequed pork! Oh Mine! It was soooooo good until I bought an extra plate from the stall. *innocent look*
Wanton Noodle with BBQ Pork
This is DA BOOM!!!
Heavenly!
There was this barbequed pork pastry stall right beside our table and the pastries kept calling my name - I just had to buy one crispy bun to try out. Oh my ^#@(^#@(^(^@(&^(!!!! It was really scrumptious with the salty juicy meat and the crispy pastry skin! We ended up getting a whole box for supper tonight. *facepalm*
BBQ Pork Pastry
Yum Yum
After stuffing ourselves silly with all the foodssss, we walked aimlessly into Lot 10, Fahrenheit 81, Starhill gallery before stopping in front of Pavillion. Frankly speaking we had no idea what to do and majority of the shops in those shopping malls are available in Penang anyway. The only shops that were not available Penang were expensive high-end boutiques which we were too poor to step in. LOL!
Ended up In front of Pavillion...
All the High-End Shops!

We’d decided to walk back to our hotel instead and got ourselves some shawarma on the way back. We utilized the swimming pool with Jacuzzi at rooftop which offered great view of KL tower glistening with different light every 30 minutes.

Swimming Pool at Night! Forget to take picture of KL tower! *facepalm*
We stayed at the pool until 10pm – the timing pool is closed before eating our supper – gyros & crispy BBQ pork pastry. The shawarma were not really nice though – still prefer the one at Penang Gurney Paragon. This was when we realized we were desperately in need for alcohol!!! This definitely constituted as our to-do list tomorrow!!!

Look at all that!!!
This is not so nice though.. =P
