What’s for Lunch? – All Seasons Place (Part 1)

All Seasons Place was kind of like the most happening places near Farlim area with restaurants, shops and even a hypermarket (Giant). However, a lot of restaurants come and go during the years so I guess it’s really competitive there. I miss the Manhattan Fish Market here so much! These are some restaurants that are still surviving as of this posting. =)

Secret Recipe
I’m quite surprised this survives for so long as it seems to be always empty. They normally have set lunch or set dinner set with rotating choices. My favourite choice is definitely their lasagna served with a hot soft bun. I would even order it ala carte if it’s not in set rotation during my visit. It’s the combination of cheese, beef Bolognese coupled with the soft bun that totally awaken your taste buds and expand your waistline... *sigh in contentment*
Beef Lasagna! The Soup is only available as a set lunch - Only the Lasagna & Soft Bun is served for Ala Carte...
Anyway, set lunch normally comes with a drink (iced lemon tea) whereas dinner comes with drink and soup. They even served keropok free of charge after your order. Another choice that I absolutely love is the puff & pie stuffs especially the Spicy Chicken Cornish – the sheer size of it can easily be a meal itself and expand your waistline again!
Iced Lemon Tea and Free Keropok
Typical Mushroom Soup
Spicy Chicken Cornish - it's HUGE!
Look at that!
Some other popular orders are the grilled mushroom chicken with rice. Personally I’m not too fond of their pasta especially the creamy type since the garlic taste was too prominent. Their portion is really big though so you will be beyond stuffed.
Grilled Mushroom Chicken - the Chicken is really Tender...
Fish & Chips - 2 pcs of Fish there!
Spaghetti Bolognese
Creamy Shrimp Macaroni
As for cakes, I hate their red velvet (even McCafe has better one) but love their yoghurt cheese and anything chocolate-y! Oh gosh, did I mention FAT?! *facepalm*
Marshmallow Cheesecake
Something Chocolate-y!
Yoghurt Cheese Cake and another Chocolate-y cake...
Red Velvet - this i hate...
Coffee Elements
If you are craving for some coffee arts and exquisite looking breakfast, Coffee Elements is definitely the place for you. We ordered the Chocolate Nutella since we do not drink coffee and were pleasantly surprised that it has a beautiful “chocolate art” on top too! =)
Chocolate Nutella
We ordered the poached egg (one with ham and another with vegemite) and really loved it. One might say these choices were not enough to fill one’s tummy but I guess now we had more excuse ordering more choices to try! LOL!!!

In case a big meal is needed, one might ordered the big breakfast with ham, scrambled egg, potato salad, baked beans, long sausage, mushroom (must better than Kitchen 23 – link) and hash browns. Gosh! My saliva is dropping by just listing out all the food here. The taste was not really extraordinary but the food presentation really made up for it. Come on, who doesn’t like their food pretty? =P

Who’s Bryan?
Who’s Bryan is another western eatery long established in All Seasons Place. It does serve set lunch and set dinner but I think during weekday only? We’d only been there once using Groupon cash voucher thus not eligible for set meal. We ordered the Marshmallow Chocolate, Grilled Chicken with sausage and Aglio Olio but frankly speaking were not too impressed with the food. The price for ala carte menu was not cheap as well thus I think if you are craving for western food in All Season’s Place – James Foo or even Coffee Elements might be the better options. =)

Winters Warmers
I’d been a customer for Winters Warmers since my High School day when they opened their 1st branch in Prangin Mall. There are more and more branches now (Precinct 10, Gurney Plaza, Queensbay & All Seasons) but one thing I realized was the food quality is different from branches.

I adored their afternoon tea set (link) but not really particularly fond of their main course menu. Before that I’d only tried out their sandwiches in Queensbay but was thinking to try out their main courses since they were selling Groupon Vouchers.

We ordered their signature iced mixed fruit tea, herbs crumbs salmon and lamb Shank when we dropped by the All Seasons Place branch. The order somewhere went wrong and we waited for a long while and expedited our order before the lamb was served – apparently they’d miss-placed our order. As a token of apology, the manager served us brownie and ice cream  but it was not enough to salvage the overly-salty lamb – I think the chef might’ve dropped the whole bottle of salt on that… *sweat*
Iced Fruit Tea
Mushroom Soup - tasted like Campbell Soup.. =P
Herbs Crumbs Salmon - kind of falling apart
Super Salty Lamb Shank
Complimentary Dessert
We did visit the One Precinct branch and ordered cheese baked rice and grilled fish and they were just passable. So the advice is – order the signature iced mixed fruit tea and the afternoon tea set or just sandwiches when you are in Winters Warmers. Their strength is definitely on these rather than main course.

Zhou Porridge -> Xuan Xin Kitchen
The restaurant used to be called “Zhou Porridge” specializing in porridges before they changed the concept and renamed it Xuan Xin Kitchen. They still sell porridge but with less options. I used to love the porridge there as it was congee type and was very smooth.
Fish & Egg Porridge
Roasted Pork - Disappointed as it was hard and not crispy
Fried Porridge
After the changes, we’d been there once to try out their food. They have set meals as well as ala carte option and we ended up ordering ginger fried hor fun, shrimp paste & egg porridge and HK style Chee Cheong fun. The Shrimp paste & egg porridge was the best out of our order whereby the HK Chee Cheong fun was not up to par like Dim Sum House in Macalister Road (link). One thing I loved about Xuan Xin group restaurant is the chilli paste provided on each table. We are definitely addicted to that. However, do go to their Queensbay or Gurney branch if you really want to enjoy it – there are more choices and the food quality is much better. =)

HK Style Chee Cheong Fun - the skin is too thick and the shrimp is falling apart...
TomYummy Noodle House
Everytime when we walked pass the alley, there was always this strong Tomyam smell coming from TomYummy. We’d finally manage to try it once but feeling a bit underwhelmed as the Tomyam seemed to be very salty and less tomyam taste. I still preferred the Tomyam from Sunshine Square Foodcourt (link). They do have other options (Tomyam or Clear Soup) but we did not try it again. Perhaps we should go again to try their rice topped with Tomyam minced meat & egg?
Cute huh?
Not Fond of this though...
I Mum Mum
This restaurant is always swarmed with customer – it is not difficult to understand as the price is low and food is nice. Our common order is the dry pan mee and the crispy pork. The crispy pork is definitely yummy and the noodle is nice to eat with their chili paste. The chili paste is not as spicy as we wished but it provides a slight sourly taste which complements the noodle well.

Yummy Crispy Pork
With the low price tag, one really cannot complain more on the food eventhough I prefer Face to Face Pan Mee but it is located in Times Square and The One Ideal. More detailed review between the two Pan Mee restaurants can be read here (link).

Kafe Roti Bakar
We liked Kafe Roti Bakar for its toasted bread with half boiled egg. Other than that, their curry wantan noodle is springy and nice as well. Rice set was just okay so we normally don’t order it unless we are really hungry. More detailed review can be read here (link). =)
Half Boiled Egg on Toast!
Sushi King
If you are too lazy to dine-in, you might want to consider to take out from Sushi King! At RM39.90, this platter is definitely worth the money and can easily feed 2-3 pax! This is their so-called Party Pack and it is not in their menu but in brochure at the counter. So just look for the brochure when you walk in and order this! =)
The Party Pack! *thumbs up*
All Seasons Place is located at Farlim, Penang.
