Prelude: Air Tickets & Planning
This marks my first time redeeming frequent flyer miles
for free air tickets! Hooray! What a milestone for me! Anyway, since my
Krisflyer miles were limited so the furthest we could get were 2 tickets to
Taiwan/HK/South China or ASEAN countries. It was a no-brainer for us to choose
Taiwan since we adore the night markets there!

We could not get a good Silkair PEN-SIN transit flight
due to either bad timing or on waiting list so I’d decided to exchange the
miles from SIN-TPE instead and bought cheap Air Asia ticket for PEN-SIN.
However, one must realizes that the so-called free redeemed ticket is not
exactly FREE – one still has to pay for airport & fuel surcharges! Thank
goodness I paid those back in March when SGD-MYR ratio was still not sky high!
We ended up paying SGD346.30/ticket surcharges for our SQ SIN-TPE flight and RM468
for our AK PEN-SIN for 2 pax. Total Damage was around RM2.3K for the air
tickets for two. Oops! I guess Air Asia is still cheaper. *facepalm*
Anyway, here is our basic itinerary for the trip to travel around Taiwan for 12 days.
