Destination: Taiwan
Duration: 13 Days 13 Nights (Nov 18~Dec 01, 2015)
Day 4: Alishan -> Fenchihu -> Kaohsiung
Our morning call rang on 4am sharp and we had to drag our
butt out of bed for our sunrise tour. *facepalm* We walked to the Alishan Train
Station (阿里山火車站)
under a 10 degree Celsius weather and was shocked at the crowd! It was only
4.30am but the line was already long and soon more people showed up! *sweat*
The 1st train left at 4.50am but we only managed to get on the 3rd
or 4th train. Once we got on the train, it was totally packed as
they needed to get as many people in as they could.

Train is finally here! |
After the sardine ride, we finally arrived at Chushan (柷山) and
the crowd there was crazy too! We followed other people and ended up at a
helicopter pad but the security there soon told us we were at the wrong place
as the direction was wrong. We had to get to the outlook area again with
gazillions of people again. *facepalm*

After the sunrise show, we took the train to get back to
Alishan Train Station and walked to 7-11 to get our bus tickets to Fenchihu (奮起湖)
before getting to the restaurant to enjoy our hotel breakfast. Enjoy must be a
too lenient word as the place was packed and the food was just okay. We took
some rest in our hotel before checking out and got on our bus to Fenchihu.

The bus ride took about an hour and the 1st
thing we did when we arrived was to get to the train station to buy the forest
trail train ticket (阿里山森林鐵路) to Chiayi (嘉義). Thankfully we managed to
get the ticket for 2pm train as we heard the tickets were constantly sold out.
Once we got the ticket, we left our luggage at the train station office and
went for some food hunting!

Manage to get the Train Ticket to Chiayi! |
We started off with “bomb biscuit” (炸弹餅) and
wanted to buy the famous yam pastry (芋頭酥) but the auntie told us it was
make-to-order! But she was willing to make it immediately and told us to come
back at 1.40pm to get our pastry. DEAL! We then bought the Shredded Peanut Ice Cream Wrap which is YUMMY! We only ate the "bomb biscuit" after back from Taiwan since it has longer expiry date and it was so crispy and delicious!!! How we regret to only buy one!!! UGH!!!
We then walked to “Ah Liang Bento” (阿良便當) to
grab some famous Fenchihu Bento (奮起湖便當). We only bought one set of braised meat bento
since we were kind of full after all the food. It tasted not bad and came with
lots of ingredients such as braised pork, chicken drumstick etc. They also sold
doughnut so we bought their cheese flavored doughnut to try. We still preferred
the original doughnut that we bought near blue house though. =P

After food, it was time for some dessert!!! We managed to
find the famous Ai Yu shop (愛玉伯ㄟ厝) and ordered ourselves some愛玉冰! We
had a great table which looked out to the mountain as well. =)

It was nearly time for our train thus we went back to get
our yam pastry and got on our train on time. We were at the last car and it was
really fun especially when the train made the turn and we could see the front
of the train from behind! Cool!

We reached Chiayi after 2 hours+ and grabbed another
train ticket to Kaohsiung. The train was really full and we were standing there
all the way to our destination for 1 hour+. Our hotel – Hwa Hong Hotel (華宏飯店) in
Kaohsiung was located quite near to the Kaohsiung train station (高雄火車站)
which cost us TWD1847 for 2 nights.

We made a brief stop before taking the MRT to Rui Feng
Night Market (瑞豐夜市) by stopping at Kaohsiung arena station (巨蛋站). MORE FOODsssssss!!!!!!!!! The night market
was completely crowded and the 1st thing we bought was Ah Ji Shi
Korean Teppanyaki Chicken Skewers (阿雞師韓醬鐵板串燒). The skewer was juicy and
all but I didn’t really like it due to the chicken skin attached to it. =P

We then bought the Shanghai Dumpling (邵師父上海湯包),
Okinawa deep squid (沖繩酥炸大魷魚) and Japanese Style Stone-Roasted Skewer (岩武將日式岩焼)
before stopping at roadside to eat the food while standing. The Shanghai
Dumpling tasted okay but we loved the Okinawa fried squid! The Japanese skewer
was very familiar to the Korean skewer but with lighter seasoning. There was
chicken skin attached too though… I saw this Korean Egg Cake (爆蛋糕) and
bought one too since I’m an egg-addict. =P

standing on the scooter. SO CUTE!!! After return to the hotel, we tried the
Taiwanese soft bun burger but unfortunately I didn’t really like the taste. But
hubby did say it’s nice. =P
