Elite Avenue is the new Apartment+Shoplot building behind
Pantai Hospital in Bayan Lepas. Since its completion, we have seen restaurants
blooming at the shoplot area – an open invitation for foodies like us?
Definitely! These are the list of restaurants we had tried out.

James Foo & Family Western Food
James Foo was the 1st restaurant we stepped into
before other restaurants. I think we do not need any introduction for James Foo
for Penangites as this brand is one of the most well-known & popular local
western food in Penang (another being Mt Erskine Hainan Western). This branch
in Elite Avenue provides their ala-carte menu as well as set lunch menu (Main
Course+Drink). So far we’ve tried a few types of the set and they were all
great.

These are pictures of set lunches with rice + meat
(pork/chicken) with different gravy/sauces. It’s nice to eat with the buttered
rice as it’s really fragrant.

rice (fewer choices). The chicken cutlet was too dry for me but I did like the
fried butter fish.

Classic Kapitan
Classic Kapitan is located just beside James Foo and they
offer variety of local & western cuisine (similar to Oldtown). They do
offer set lunch as well ranging from fried rice to noodle sets. The latest set
lunch menu seems to include dessert as well but with higher price.
Here are some pictures of the set lunches. One thing to
highlight – the fried rice portion is HUGE! You might not be able to finish it
if you are a small eater. My colleague did love their spicy fried rice and
managed to wolf down the whole plate. =)

As for the noodle sets, so far the common consensus is to
order the spicy chicken set rather than the steamed Hainan chicken set. The
reason? The noodle for the steamed Hainan chicken set is just instant noodles
whereas the noodle for spicy chicken set is different and more fragrant too.
Don’t worry about the ‘spicy’ wording, the chili is served separately anyway.

They also offer light bites such as half-boiled egg with
toast – which I love! =)

Stick & Spoon (CLOSED!!!)
Stick & Spoon is a Chinese restaurant with similar menu
to Dragon-I with cheaper price. We’ve just discovered this restaurant recently and
find the food there not bad. However, the restaurant has limited seating and
seems to be always full – so you might want to come in earlier for lunch.

We like the ‘xiao long pao’ and the steamed rice bowl. The
sauce was served separately for the rice bowl for your own preferences. One
thing to highlight is the meager amount of salted fish (2 super tiny strips)
provided for the rice bowl on top of the pork – I’d preferred it to be more or
minced and mixed with the minced pork and steam together since we can’t really
taste the salted fish & meat combination in this case. With the same price
tag of “minced pork & salted fish rice bowl” & “minced pork & egg
rice bowl”, I think I’d rather order the one with egg. =P

half of the choices there were not available… *sweat*

Aussie Outback Roast Chicken and Fusion Cuisine
Aussie Outback is another restaurant with set lunch menu at
RM14.90 with drink & main course. The set lunch choices are their chef
recommended roast chicken, pot pie, grilled pork, fish or spaghetti. The place was always full so reservation should be considered before stepping in.

The roast chicken that I got was the breast+wing area and it
was a bit tasteless and hard. Thankfully there is the gravy to the rescue along
with roast potato.

During another visit, i ordered the Fish and waited for so long for it to be served. The manager was very courteous and kept apologize to us on the delay. The fish did look really nice when served but i found it to be too soft on borderline of undercooked. It has no fishy smell though but i was still a bit disgusted by the texture. My colleague told me hers was fine. Just my luck i guess. =(

Another colleague ordered Chicken & Mushroom Pot Pie and the Pie was covered with Paratha instead of the usual Puff. She did love it eventhough it was a bit salty.

There are still some restaurants that we have no chance to
try such as Beyond Veggie (by Secret Recipe), St Presso, another Japanese
restaurant & a steamboat restaurant. We heard from a friend saying St
Presso isn’t that great thus this kind of dampen our interest.
