Day 1: Meet the Lover
There is an old saying that a daughter
must be the father’s lover in past life. I can definitely attest to that when I
was thrown to the back of the car whereas father & lover were sitting at the
front when we started our journey to Ipoh. UGH!!! *rolleyes*

Our 1st stop was Ming Court
Dim Sum to have some brunch and it was swarmed with patrons. We ended up
sharing table with another group of patrons and ordered BBQ Bun, har kao, chee
cheong fun & glutinous rice. My favourite would be the BBQ Pork Bun which
was filled with very savoury gravy. Most of the dim sums were sold out though
as we were too late for breakfast.

We continued our journey to Concubine
Lane and it was really a PAIN to get a parking space there. Thankfully we
managed to get one after turning a few rounds. The Ipoh Hor Fun in Thean Chun
Restaurant is very famous but the restaurant was fully occupied. However,
customer could still order it even if sitting at the Zun Seng Fatt Café which
is right beside Thean Chun. Once we sat down in Zun Seng Fatt, we were
approached to order egg custard so we ordered one for try out. The egg custard
was just meh though.

Actually other than Ipoh hor fun, Thean
Chun is also famous for their egg custard but unfortunately we did not get to
dine in the restaurant. Hubby ended up buying the egg custard from Thean Chun
to-go and we discreetly poured it in Zun Seng Fatt’s egg custard empty bowl.
*facepalm* We did not regret our decision as the egg custard from Thean Chun
was really YUMMY! It actually tasted & felt like crème brulee!

The Ipoh hor fun took a while to be
served and it did not disappoint us – it was nicely seasoned with sesame oil
and the hor fun was really soft with smooth texture and the soup savoury.

The Concubine Lane is just opposite the
restaurant so we took a walk into the lane since it is aptly appropriate to my
hubby’s lover status!!! Anyway it was a really hot day and frankly speaking the
lane was quite short and is more like a tourist trap. =P We simply took some
pictures and continued our hunt for Ipoh Mural.

Along the way we bumped into another
lane called Wife Lane and another beautifully decorated lane beside the Happy 8
Retreat café. The weather was scorching and we quickly surrendered and got back
to the car after getting some Ipoh white coffee to-go. We got it from 2
different cafes and both tasted different. Both were very thick but I still
felt the milkier one was nicer after one sip as i’m not a coffee drinker. We
also bought the famous taufufa (soya bean curd) & soya bean drink from
Funny Mountain which happened to have a long ‘drive-thru’ queue. We ended up
getting down from the car and got our purchase immediately to skip the queue.

We continued our journey to “the Haven
Resort” for check in and they put us to a 2 bedded room instead of the single
suite we booked earlier. However, we were not allowed to use the 2nd
bedroom even though it is there. The Haven is famous for its seahorse shape
swimming pool which is surrounded by the majestic limestone cliff &
mirroring lake. Since we did not pay extra to get lake view (we were too
broke!!!!), our room was actually facing some construction site. *facepalm*

After settling down, we took a stroll at
the trail and took pictures of the resort & limestone in mirroring lake
before settled down at the Jacuzzi section of the pool. The Jacuzzi section was
definitely the highlight of the pool as the water pressure was constantly
strong and the water hot. We lazed in this section the longest throughout our
stay. Another famous sight of the resort was the transparent wall of swimming
pool. We took the risk of ‘hand phone drowning’ to take those pictures as we
did not have water proof bag for our phones.

We were there for a long time before
finally getting back to our room to devour the soya bean curd which was not too
sweet & had very smooth texture. Btw, it tasted really great eventhough it’s
with white sugar sauce. We were not a fan of the soya bean drink though as it
was definitely too sweet for our taste buds.

We ventured out to take some pictures of
the area in nightview before driving to Ipoh Old Street for Tuck Kee. The restaurant
was full as usual and they got our order wrong after waiting for such a long
time. The staffs were also incredibly rude and ignored us when we asked TWICE on
where to get some chili. Guess they don’t care about customer service since
they are famous enough. We loved the War Tan Hor Fun but we were quite
disgusted by Yu Kong Hor as they mistakenly ordered our small size to medium so
we had to eat the big plate of Yu Kong Hor. We were puzzled on why it was so
big. We only realized the mistake when we saw the receipt after paying. We were
stuffed to the blink of explosion and finally called it a day.

Day 2: A Chicken’s Purpose
Today is our last day in Haven so we
tried to wake up early for breakfast to enjoy the pool till last minute. The
breakfast area was quite full but luckily we managed to get a table in no time.
Food was okay and I loved the fact that the egg station cook put tons of
mozzarella in the omelet. Basically we spent the whole morning lazing in the
pool (& hiding under the shade) and checked out at last minute. I guess 1 day is not enough. *sob*

Since kukukai was from Ipoh, we were
trying to look for his home for some ‘relative’ visit. We 1st made a
detour into ‘the Banjaran’ as it was very near the Haven. Banjaran is famed for
its exquisite suite with private pool with extravaganza price tag. Our journey
did not get far as soon there was this guardhouse with ‘show me the $$ or we will
shoot’ verve. Haha.. so we ended up taking a picture of the entrance instead.

We continued on to kukukai’s home and
found that it had become a mini mart instead! Poor kukukai!!!! With sadness we
drove to ‘Ji Le’ Cave as Ipoh is famous for its caves. The formation was really
amazing and there was a park at the other side. The view was really
breathtaking but the weather was really hot. =(

We made a stop at ‘San Pao’ Cave but did
not enter it as it seemed quite smoky inside. We quietly got tired of cave
hunting and made a stop at Ming Yue for their famous peanut candy & kaya
puff. There was a long queue for the peanut candy and apparently you were not
guaranteed on availability as they only made certain amount in certain timing. We
were there for like 30mins and finally got ours. Frankly speaking, I still felt
their kaya puff was more delicious than the peanut candy – and you don’t have
to queue for the kaya puff! =P

We finally made our last stop at the
famous Yong Tau Foo at ‘Big Tree Foot’. We ordered the curry soup & laksa with
tons of fried stuffs and it was really fulfilling and fattening. Definitely not
a good choice if someone is on a diet. *facepalm* After the late lunch, we
finally headed home after getting a salted chicken from another famous shop – I
guess we finally found a purpose for kukukai! *wink*
