Travel Log: How to Gain 10 Pounds in 2 Days (Day 2)

Previous Day (Queue, Food & Rain)

Destination: Hatyai, Thailand
Duration: 2 Days 1 Night (Dec15~Dec 16, 2012)

Day 2: Market, Queue & HOT

We started our day with tuk-tuk to the morning market to look for breakfast. Our unofficial tour guide took us into a coffee shop full of patrons. Finally we got our seat to order our breakfast – pork knuckle noodle or roasted pork noodle. I almost fainted when I saw the roasted pork – the layers of FAT amazed me! How a pig could got so much layers of fat beneath its skin baffled me! The noodle was kind of drenched with oil as well since we ordered the dry version. However, the noodle did taste nice when mixed with the chili flakes and chili sauce. We also ordered some sugar cane drink to go along with our food… oh dear, the drink was so sweet until one could get diabetes from it. The breakfast cost us around 65-70 baht per pax.
Arriving at the Market
Let's Grab Some FOOD!!!
Lots of People!
The Pork Knuckle Set
Roasted Pork Set - Look at all the Layers of FAT!!!
Diabetic Sugar Cane Drink
The weight meter? Carbo – yay to the noodle and tons from the sugar cane! Protein – the Roasted Pork? Fiber – very little, Calories – LOTS, FAT – Need I mention this? Did you see the FAT LAYER of the Roasted pork?! Weight Gain – 2 pounds!

We continued into the morning market and basically it was hot, stuffy and oh so crowded. There were lots of stalls there but we were simply too worn out by the heat. We did manage to grab a pack of chili flakes when walking past a stall by accident. We then went into a super crowded shop to grab some local food stuffs. Gosh!!! You would think the stuff was free there with all the crowds!
Inside Morning Market
Gosh!!! Is this FREE?! Why so many People?
This is the Shop Name!
Hmm... Wolverine in Thailand?
The Hobbits?!
After morning market, we went back to hotel to put our stuffs and continued to Lee Garden area again. Our van would arrive to pick us up at 12 noon Thai time thus there were very little time for us to shop. We did manage to get to Central again to the Tops Market which we missed out yesterday to grab some spicy French toast and some cheese sticks. After that, we went to McDonalds planning to buy the Samurai Pork burger as our lunch on the van. Unfortunately the pork burger was sold out and we had to settle with cheese burger and spinach pie.

There was a KFC there as well so we’d decided to grab the KFC egg tart. Unbeknownst to us, the KFC egg tart at KFC Lee Garden cost a whooping 39 baht a piece rather than 20 baht in KFC Tesco Lotus last night! OMG! Why wasn’t the price standardize within all KFC??? The egg tart was nice and all but at the price of 39baht a piece – it was simply NOT WORTH IT!
McD & KFC!!!
We departed from Hatyai at 12noon with a very old van with faulty air conditioner!  This was simply BAD!!! We had to open the window to let the air in else we would risk suffocation. We ate our lunch on the van – cheese burger, spinach pie and egg tart. The cheese burger was quite dry actually, the spinach pie was special and nice and the egg tart of course was delicious but expensive.

The damage? Carbo – yay burger bun, pie & egg tart, what do you expect? Protein – beef in the burger? Fiber – NONE, Calories – Countless, FAT – TONS! Weight Gain – 2 pounds!
Nowadays Hotel likes to have Tripadvisor's Recommendation!
Our VAN! *facepalm*
For those of you who had been keeping count of my weight meter, you would scream cheating as my total was up to 12 pounds, you must be thinking – I thought you mention 10 pounds? Why the extra 2 pounds? Well, the 2 pounds were BURNED off during our van ride! Underneath the hot sun with no air conditioner – we were sweating like pigs! Hence the 2 pounds deduction!

Anyway the queue at both Malaysian and Thai custom were significantly shorter than yesterday and we managed to reach Penang Island at around 6.30pm Malaysian time thanks to some jam on the highway. So was this a fruitful trip?  If fruitful means that whether we ate a lot and bought a lot of foods, then the answer is definitely YES!!!
All the Foods & Drink from 7-11!!!
Lays! KILL ME!!!
Did I mention that we ate the 7-11 rice for dinner as well right after we arrived in Penang? Here are the Basil Chicken Rice and Curry Pork Rice! The Basil Chicken was very aromatic but could be a bit dry when ate with the rice. The Curry Pork had very heavy coconut milk flavour. I wish 7-11 in Penang has those!!!
