Voucher Food Hunt: Chez Weng

Precinct 10 has become one of the hippest places in Penang for Food and Beverages. One of the stands out is Chez Weng – opened by the owner of Cassis with a more casual dining experience than their first restaurant.

Since we’ve tried Cassis and was impressed by their food (Link), we quickly bought this myooo voucher when we get to  know that they have the same owner.

On a fine Sunday evening, we casually strolled in Chez Weng to claim our voucher since no reservation was required. We were served with special bread with oil and vinegar and also ice or warm water. The restaurant was spacey and decorated tastefully – very earthly and nostalgic feel there.

We were a bit worried that we might not be able to finish two 12inches but from our experience, gourmet pizza normally was served with very thin crust. Thus we go ahead with our orders of 2 pizzas. There were 5 choices of pizzas in the menu and we chose:-
-          Portabella Mushroom, Garlic Confit & Truffle Oil Pizza
-          Seafood, Spinach & Olive Oil Pizza

The Portabella mushroom pizza was served first and thankfully it was indeed thin crust! The crust is very thin and crispy. The most prominent taste of the pizza is the parmesan cheese taste which overwhelmed the mushroom. Anyway if you are a cheese lover, you would like this.

The seafood pizza was served next and our first impression was a pizza with a few spinach leaves on top. To our great surprise, hidden underneath the spinach were a few big and juicy prawns and bit and pieces of squid and scallop! Oh mine, this was heaven! This pizza has more of a tomato paste base – a slight difference from the mushroom pizza.

Prawn!!!
A slight flaw about both pizzas was that both tasted a tad too salty to me. Go easy on the salt next time please. The service was great though – the waiter kept refilling our water non-stop as well. Another funny trivia was their menu is made of plain A4 paper and stapled like some document. Strange huh?

Chez Weng is located at Precinct 10, Tanjung Tokong, Penang – next to Island plaza.
