What’s for Lunch? – Gastronomic Kopitiam

Nested in the shop lot rows at Sunway Tunas is a family-run restaurant with air condition – Gastronomic Kopitiam. The kopitiam is managed by a mother who is the sole waitress cum cashier (we call her auntie) and her 2 sons as chefs. The kopitiam offers all kind of foods you can imagine – fusion, western, Chinese etc. The place is normally swarmed with people during lunchtime which raises a problem – it will take time for your food to be served. If you really do not want to wait, call ahead and pre-order your food.

They offer pasta, western set, fried rice/noodle, porridge and even plain noodle soup. Our common orders are their fried rice and tom yam/plain soup noodle which cost around RM5-6. They offer varieties of fried rice ranges from Malay style to Chinese style.

Occasionally, we will order their ‘drunk-prawn’ noodles which tasted really nice – the dish is full of bean sprout though so if you are not a fan of bean sprout, do inform them to skip it. You can also request them to remove the prawn shell during preparation so that you don’t need to have a ‘battle’ with the shells when you are eating. =P

Their pasta and spaghetti are nice to try too – we tried their Spaghetti Carbonara, chicken chop as well as Fish & Chips which all tasted good but would be pricier if compared with their fried rice/noodles order (>RM10).
Fettuccine Carbonara! Look at how creamy that is!
They’ve also added in porridge in their menu few months ago such as fried porridge, chicken porridge, fish porridge, sharkfin porridge as well as tomyam porridge! According to auntie, the tomyam porridge is very popular but I guess we just couldn’t imagine the taste of tomyam in porridge. So we keep it conservative by ordering their fried porridge and fish porridge (you can choose fried fish or fresh fish). We must say we LOVE the porridge and it is our regular order since the ‘launching’. I think we should actually call it congee as the porridge was cooked until very smooth.

Gastronomic Kopitiam is located at Sunway Tunas, Penang.
