What do you do when you have no idea where to celebrate your
wife/girlfriend’s birthday celebration in your hometown? Well, Tripadvisor
might be your best bet! Situated in a secluded alley in Heritage site of
Georgetown, Chez Nous has raised to the No. 1 spot in Tripadvisor for best
restaurant in Georgetown ever since they open the café only 3 months ago.
I was led by hubby to the dark alley – dumbfounded no less
on why in the world we would be in this alley and that was when we stopped in front
of Chez Nous. We were warmly greeted by Philip who gave us some introduction
of the menu – they have a limited menu due to limited manpower but they change
menu every Tuesday. They have special imported Belgium beer as Philip is from
Belgium himself and they LOVE TURQUOISE thus the turquoise theme decoration in
the café.

Is that Philip? LOL... |
Since we were totally clueless on what to order, we’d
decided to follow Philip recommendation on Vintage Sardine & Belgium Pork
Sausage. We also ordered the Raspberry Beer and homemade lemonade with spices.
|
Lots of Special Belgium Beer |
The Raspberry Beer was so AWESOME! It was my first time
drinking a fruity beer and it was really refreshing. They also had Cherry Beer
and Peach Beer – Note to self: Need to try this next time! The lemonade was of
course turquoise with a hint of ginger and cinnamon which was totally different
from lemonade from other restaurants – a must try!

Our main courses arrived and we were totally amazed. We’d
never imagined sardine could taste so good. It was served with bread, butter
and green salad. Basically you simply apply the butter on the bread together
with sardine and that’s it – a total delicacy.

The Vintage Sardine Set - Amazing Combination |

This is Scrumptious! |
The Belgium Sausage was homemade and had a totally different
texture from German or other sausages. In fact, the compact texture reminded me
of the local “loh bak” (pork roll) with a Belgium twist. The mashed potatoes
might look ordinary but it has carrots & bacons in it. As Philip mentioned, they ate whatever is in the menu themselves so they want the food to
taste great! Along with lots of heart I must say. =)

Spicy Pork Sausage |
After finishing the main course, the light was dimmed and
Philip came over with a dessert with candle singing Happy Birthday. What a
pleasant surprise! Some French Tourists sang along as well which made it even more amazing. The feeling was I thought that i was actually in a foreign country on vacation rather than in Penang. *blush*

Charlota |
The was this funny story of the dessert – It’s a Mexican dessert
called “Charlota” which was not on the menu and was prepared by 2 Mexican
customers who love the food so much that they came back and prepared dinner for
the owner. Did I mention “Charlota” was heavenly??? It was sourly and creamy
and they should definitely put this on the menu.
We also had the ‘outsourced’ crepe cake which was actually
the ‘worst’ out of the food we’d tried that night. By ‘worst’ I didn’t mean it
was bad, it was just that other stuffs were SO GOOD that this was totally overshadowed…
Oops… =P

If you like a homely environment with amazing food, Chez
Nous is definitely a must-try. Don’t be afraid of the dark alley – there is a
GEM in there. Don’t wait! You won’t regret it! We will definitely going back to
try out the different menu.
Chez Nous is located at 17, Lorong Seck Chuan, 10200 George
Town, Penang.
