Travel Log: Legends of the Fall (Day 6)

Previous Day: Hiroshima & Fushimi Inari

Destination: Japan
Duration: 8 Days 8 Nights (Nov 27~Dec 05, 2017)

Day 6: A Long Walking Day at Eastern Kyoto with Abundance of Autumn Colors
We would have 3 days in Kyoto before our flight back to Malaysia thus I copied this Eastern Kyoto Full Day Guideline (link) as our itinerary of the day. We quickly realised that we could not fulfill the itinerary as we departed in the morning too late and deviated to other destination instead. =P
Guesthouse Entrance in morning...
There was the Kawaramachi Shomen Bus Stop near our guesthouse where we took bus directly to Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion) – our 1st destination. It was quite a long ride and we bought this beautiful handmade hair accessory from this old lady. We actually had to walk part of the Philosopher's Path before reaching Ginkakuji entrance. We made some snack break before finally entering Ginkakuji at 11am+.
Waiting for our bus...
Off we go...
Arriving at Eastern Kyoto...
Philosopher's Path
Matcha & Matcha Puff!
Yum yum!!! Look at lil one's hair clip! Newly bought!
Finally at the Entrance of Ginkakuji...
The main Ginkakuji was surrounded by beautiful garden with trees in magnificent autumn colors. Thus the abundance of photos we took that day were with trees rather than with the building.. =P

Ginkakuji & the Lake
Goodbye Ginkakuji!
After leaving Ginkakuji, we walked the Philosopher's Path along the canal for a long time. At 1st we were complaining most of the leaves along the path had dropped and we could only take picture of trees without leaves! Thing quickly changed when we finally walked past the area with the leaves intact. Yay!!!
Philosopher's Path!!!
Where are the leaves?!!!
Yes! Finally there are leaves!!!
Really love this view at Philosopher's Path
The View & the Drawing by an artist there....
We bought a deep-fried crab stick from a random stall along the way – it was non-greasy and did not taste like our normal fake crab stick sold in Malaysia. We continued our walk until reaching Eikando Zenrinji.
Random stall...
Giant Crabstick
Still walking nonstop.... i think this is the junction to yet another temple which we skipped...
Sammy needs to make an appearance!
The Ducks!!!
Eikando Zenrinji had all the autumn leaves which was even more striking than the ones at Ginkakuji. The garden was like a sea of red & yellow maple sea and we just couldn’t stop taking pictures there.
Finally we are at Eikando Zenrinji!!!
More Autumn Leaves!!!
Red & Yellow!
Autumn Leaves everywhere!!!
Inside the temple...

Goodbye Eikando Zenrinji...
It was already 2.30pm by the time we left Eikando Zenrinji so we decided to skip a few destinations in our original itinerary since we were simply running out of time. Nanzenji was in our way thus we simply walked in and took pictures of the 2 buildings before continuing our super long walk to Kiyomizu-dera temple.
Having some steamed sweet potato...
The Gate of Nanzenji
I guess this is the main temple of Nanzenji?
Another view of the gate...
OMG!!! Taxi with Malaysian Tourism Advertisement!
We were following tripadvisor offline map and continued towards Keage Incline – the place should looked beautiful during cherry blossom season as it was surrounded by cherry blossom trees.. too bad we were there at the wrong season though. =P
Keage Incline...
At the railroad with cherry blossom trees without cherry blossom! LOL!!!
We walked, walked & walked through some uphill shortcut before passing through the entrance of Chion-in temple & Maruyama park – both we did not went in. We finally arrived at Higashiyama Street which was completed crowded until one could hardly move!
A Lake at Maruyama Park
Let's get some hotdog for lil one...
Higashiyama Street with tons of people....
Finally we reached Kiyomizu-dera temple at around 3.50pm which was quite late. To my disappointment, the main temple was under construction and its upper body was completed covered. This was my 2nd time to Kiyomizu-dera and during my 1st time there was some construction going on for the pagoda near the entrance (link). Guess the construction had been on-going on different buildings of the area for years. Gosh! I’d never had a break with building under restoration for my travel… *rolleyes*
Kiyomizu-dera Entrance!!! People Mountain People Sea again...
Near the Bell..
The Pagoda behind the main gate which was under restoration during my 1st visit...
Lots of girls in Kimono! Most of them are from China though.. =P

More red leaves...
With Pagoda & lake...
It was 5pm++ by the time we left kiyomizu-dera and the Higashiyama Street was still full of people. We left the area quickly as we really were not fond of tight spaces. We proceeded to walk to Tenamonya – a famous teppanyaki restaurant near Yasaka shrine. We were starving as we did not have any proper meal for whole day. Thankfully there were empty seats when we arrived at the restaurant. It was a family-run restaurant with husband & wife and we saw them turning out patrons several times during our dinner there since the small restaurant was full.
Finally we arrived at our dinner destination
We were given these to choose for our sake...
Definitely need a beer!
Small restaurant & full of patrons..
We ordered grilled wagyu beef, pork ribs, soba wrapped with omelet & some deep fried plate with beer & sake. The food was indeed excellent and the wagyu beef was indeed melt-in-your-mouth goodness!!! Definitely a must-go restaurant! *thumbs up* The owner was so nice and gave lil one a small gift when we left and she was telling us it made her happy to see lil one enjoying herself there. Awwww…….
A Family photo taken by the owner...
Eyes on the FOOD!!!
Deep fried foods, pork ribs, wagyu beef & soba wrapped in omelet...
A gift from the owner...
We took a picture at the front of the Yasaka Shrine but were simply too lazy to walk in anymore. We walked through Gion shopping street as well as the junction of Hanamikoji Street but were also too lazy to walk in…. mind you, we had been walking nonstop since morning until our dinner thus forgive us for being a slouch at this hour. =P
The Gate of Yasaka Shrine..
Streets at Gion
Hubby was looking at the tripadvisor offline map and noticed Ippudo Ramen was just around the corner thus we walked there for supper. There was a queue there even at 9pm but thankfully it wasn’t that long. We ordered the original white ramen & spicy ramen. The broth at Ippudo was not as concentrate as Ichiran but still had its own allure. Lil one was really enjoying the ramen there.
Queuing for Ramen....
Our Ramen...
After supper, it was time to WALK back to our guesthouse again which took us another 20-30minutes. Basically it was really super long walking day for us. Anyway, now I understand why Japanese girls are so thin! They got free cold slimming treatment especially during cold weather!!! My leg was basically frozen and remained cold even after reaching the hotel as I was too lazy to wear stocking. =P

Next Day: Lazy Day at Arashiyama
